Learn more about DNA testing
We’ve all heard about DNA testing for humans, but did you know that there is also DNA
testing for dogs? Like human DNA tests, dog DNA testing can reveal very interesting information about the breed make-up of a dog and provide insight into various dog characteristics.
While it’s certainly not necessary to know the breed make-up of a mixed-breed dog, we understand that some of our American Mutt-i-grees Club members are curious about the breed mix of their pet - and want to learn more about its detailed breed composition.
Testing is simple
If you live in the Tri-State area, please call our Muttigrees shelter location to schedule a DNA test with a veterinarian:
Pet Health Center
(516) 883-7579
Alternatively, there’s a simple, accurate, state-of-the-art DNA-based test that dog owners can use at home to genetically determine the breed composition of their mixed-breed
dog. This mail-in test is simple, convenient and non-invasive, and no special handling is required for the DNA Cheek Swab Collection Kit. Swabbing is done easily and comfortably by you, the pet owner, avoiding the difficulties and expense of other DNA sampling methods.
DNA Certificates
If you provide a digital photo of your pet (following the kit instructions provided), that photo will also be printed on your PawPrint™ Certificate, at no extra charge.
Mutt-i-grees DNA Registry
As our club members obtain genetic DNA test results, the American Mutt-i-grees Club will retain those results in a mixed-breed DNA registry.

At least three early species of the Homo genus began spreading out of Africa roughly 400,000 years ago, and thus lived for a considerable period in contact with canine cissp species. Despite this,E20-001 there is no evidence of any adaptation of canine species to the presence of the close relatives of modern man. If dogs were cissp certification domesticated, as believed, roughly 15,000 years ago, the event (or events) would have coincided with a large expansion in human territory and the development of agriculture. This has led some biologists to cissp exam suggest that one of the forces that led to the domestication of dogs was a shift in human lifestyle in the form of established human settlements. Permanent settlements would have coincided with a greater amount of disposable food and would have created a barrier between wild and anthropogenic canine populations.

Domestic dogs inherited a complex social hierarchy and behaviors from their wolf ancestors. Dogs are pack animals with a complex set of behaviors related to determining each dog's position in the social hierarchy,350-029 and they exhibit various postures and other means of nonverbal communication that reveal their states of mind. These sophisticated forms of social cognition and communication may account for their trainability, playfulness,642-105 and ability to fit into human households and social situations,642-873 and these attributes have earned dogs a unique relationship with humans despite being potentially dangerous apex predators.
