Just as humans can have accidents at anytime and at any place, so can dogs. Having a canine first-aid kit handy in your home, and if your dog travels with you, in your car; can be a life-saving investment. While there are many, ready-made first-aid kits available, these are geared towards humans and do not meet the specific requirements injured dogs need.

Here are some items all dog owners should have for their first-aid kit:

1. Tweezers (to remove splinters, debris from lacerations, and ticks)
2. Hydrogen peroxide (to clean wounds, induce vomiting for suspected poisonings)
3. Neosporin ointment (to place on cuts, bee stings or other minor wounds)
4. Gauze pads, a gauze roll, fabric or waterproof tape (to cover wounds, stabilize injured limbs)
5. Scissors (to cut gauze and medical tape)
6. Medicated wipes/medicated wash (to clean wounds)
7. Styptic pencil (to stop minor nail bleeding)
8. Gloves (so caregivers will not transmit their hand bacteria when tending to a dog’s injuries)
9. Cotton balls (to absorb minor bleeding, use with medicated wash to help clean wounds)

Additionally, inside each first-aid kit and by each telephone, dog owners will need an index card with the following information:

1. Your current vet’s name and phone number
2. Nearest after-hours emergency vet clinic and their phone number
3. Your dog’s age, breed and weight
4. Any known allergies and medical conditions
5. A list of current medications (name, strength, dosing information)
6. Current vaccination information (name of vaccine and date administered)
7. Microchip identification number

Be sure, if visiting a vet emergency clinic or an office that is unfamiliar with your dog, to bring this information with you.  By having a card with all up-to-date, relevant health information completed, vets can get a quick glimpse of your dog’s past medical health which; in an emergency, can save valuable time.

Puppies are vaccinated

Puppies are vaccinated beginning as young as 4-5 weeks and will undergo a series of immunizations, or shots, in the first few months (approximately every 3-4 weeks) after their first shot to bridge the gap, or “window of susceptibility,” between the protection provided by their mother’s immune system and their response to a vaccine. A final booster shot is typically given between 14 and 16 weeks of age, at which time most puppies will be fully protected by the vaccine. Some veterinarians recommend that revaccination take place one year after the final booster, and then every three years or so thereafter, depending on your dog’s vaccination schedule, Promotional gifts environment, health, and other factors.

Domestic dogs inherited a complex social hierarchy and behaviors from their wolf ancestors.1z0-047 Dogs are pack animals with a complex set of behaviors related to determining each dog's position in the social hierarchy,SY0-201 and they exhibit various postures and other means of nonverbal communication that reveal their states of mind.JN0-400 These sophisticated forms of social cognition and communication may account for their trainability, playfulness, and ability to fit into human households and social situations, and these attributes have earned dogs a unique relationship with humans despite being potentially dangerous apex predators.
